Uttoxeter is a rural market town in the grazing district above the vale of Dove. It has two railway stations the main line to North Staffordshire and the Churnet Valley Railway which runs partly along the old Uttoxeter to Froghall canal which has partly been filled in.
Uttoxeter's new Market Place has been home to a new Farmer's Market, run by the local NFU. The market is held on the last Saturday of every month and is becoming larger and larger each time. The market is a huge benefit to the town and was spurred on by the successes of the previous two food festivals held during Flourish Festival week.
The Flourish Festival has proved very popular, bringing many talents to Uttoxeter with over 30 events, from Music to visual arts Drama to Food based activities. The 2008 festival is scheduled to take place from Friday 20th to Saturday 28th June and plans currently include a music weekend, visual art galleries and taster sessions, amateur dramatic performances and a film festival celebrating Uttoxeter's heritage.
The May Festival has been re-introduced and staged in the historic market place. Traditional music and there is even some May Pole Dancing.
